Glen is a pleasant and affordable neighborhood located in Northwest Baltimore Maryland. Situated in the heart of the Baltimore Jewish community, Glen is known as a quiet and peaceful place to live. Development of Glen began in the early 1920’s and continued through the 1960’s. It is one of the biggest areas in Baltimore’s Northern Park Heights. Glen is known for its special coexistence between the African American and Orthodox Jewish communities.
Synagogues In Glen
Glen is home to a number of Jewish synagogues. This makes Glen a great choice for Jewish families seeking a place to live and raise their children. Among them: Agudath Israel of Baltimore and Tiferes Yisroel led by Rabbi Menachem Goldberger. The Agudath Israel of Baltimore is a large synagogue, or shul, located at 6200 Park Heights Ave, Baltimore, MD 21215. It is at the corner of Pinkney Road and Park Heights Avenue. The synagogues have a high attendance and help foster the sense of community as well.
The Glen Neighborhood Improvement Association
In the late 1960’s an organization called the Glen Neighborhood Improvement Association, or GNIA was formed. The GNIA has formed close relationships with various community groups that are devoted to developing the neighborhood.
One of the benefits of the Glen neighborhood is its location in the city of Baltimore. Glen is not far from the Beltway and I-83. It is approximately 17 minutes from the I-695 and 12 minutes from the I-83.
The Jewish Community Center of Greater Baltimore
One of the great attractions located in Glen is the Jewish Community Center of Greater Baltimore, known as the JCC. The JCC provides a wide variety of programs geared toward the Jewish community. It provides fitness centers with the latest equipment and group fitness classes. It also has swimming pools and gyms for basketball and volleyball. It also has camps, preschools and teen programs. The JCC is a great place for you to bring your children and sign up for some of the wonderful activities that they make available for the community. It is truly a great communal resource. The Reisterstown Road Plaza
Located very close to the Baltimore neighborhood of Glen is the large and well-known Reisterstown Road Plaza. The Plaza opened up in 1962 as an outdoor shopping center and later changed to an indoor mall. The Plaza is near the Reisterstown Plaza Metro Subway Station. Some of the big stores currently in The Plaza are Burlington Coat Factory, National Wholesale Liquidators and Home Depot. The Reisterstown Road Plaza also contains the Baltimore City Community College and Maryland’s office of vital records. The Plaza is a great place to go for shopping and other needs.
